Overview
Other ventilated cabinet safety concern.
This item is used for other fume hood concerns that don’t fit into the other checklist items
In the accompanying image the occupant is attempting to vent something using ordinary dryer vent material that can be purchased at a home improvement store. This is unacceptable for these reasons:
- First, it is unlikely that dryer vent is acceptable as a duct material.
- Second, this is extremely energy inefficient.
- Third, it compromises the ability to use the fume hood for its intended purpose.
- Pay attention for DIY-type solutions when it comes to ventilation.
Another example might be when you suspect that a fume hood is not operating properly and it is likely a mechanical failure. For instance, you might notice odors spilling from the hood, a strange noise or the hood is moving less air than it should be. In that case, alert the occupants and notify EHS Senior Staff or a Director immediately.
Finally, this is where you would cite issues with the fume hood controller we recently covered. If the controller is reading more than 20% different than what the certification sticker states, cite that here. Additionally, if the standby or emergency buttons appear to be not functional, cite that under this item.
