Overview
Ventilated cabinet is being used in a manner contrary to its design (e.g., cluttered, compromised, wrong sash height, etc.) or intended use (e.g., heated perchloric acid operations in a regular hood, flame in a BSC, etc.).
The capture efficiency of a fume hood can be compromised when it is used inappropriately or design features of the hood have been defeated or compromised.
Cite this item if the fume hood operation is compromised due to user modifications to the hood structure (e.g., holes drilled in the sides, parts removed, etc.) or misuse (overcrowding, not elevating large equipment, etc.).
Cite this item if the sash of a fume hood is not closed and the fume hood is unattended.
This checklist item would be cited for a gas cabinet that was being misused. Most commonly we see cabinet doors that have been left ajar or propped open, systems that have been gutted, or cabinets that have not been properly connected to the building exhaust.
