The only thing that should enter a storm drain is unpolluted storm water. Not even groundwater should enter a storm drain. All interior floor drains should be connected to the sanitary sewer, and you can make that assumption. But, exterior drains are all storm drains. Examples of activities/situations that you may observe while on campus and which should be brought to the attention of the assigned EHS staff person are washing cars, equipment, or other items outside, particularly if it is on hard-surfaces such as asphalt and concrete, intentional dumping to the storm sewer system, track-out or mud leaving a construction site, dumping of concrete mixer washings, displaced or loaded gutter buddies, etc.
You are not likely to cite anything under this checklist item since it will generally be followed-up by the EHS staff member assigned responsibility for the Stormwater Program.
