Overview

Other PPE concern.

  • This is our standard catch-all that applies to items not addressed by the other check list items. Examples:
    • Inappropriate PPE Storage
    • PPE worn in public areas

Instructions for how to handle the use of respiratory and hearing protection in the laboratory is going to be addressed in the “Special Topics” section of the audit and training.

Protective clothing should be left in the laboratory to minimize the possibility of spreading chemicals to public, assembly, eating or office areas. PPE should not be stored in offices, break areas, etc. In general, PPE should not be worn outside of the laboratories. The exception would be walking from lab to lab or transporting chemicals/samples from lab to lab. In the case where chemicals or samples are being transferred, we recommend that one glove be removed to allow the opening of doors. Ideally, any transfer of chemicals from lab to lab should be performed with the chemicals on a cart and/or in a secondary transport container (e.g. tub or tote).

PPE should be removed before using any public facilities such are break/meeting areas, water fountains, restrooms, elevators, etc. If you see such behavior, it would be cited under this item.
