Overview
Relocatable Power Taps, power strips, or extension cords are not plugged directly into a permanently installed electrical outlet.
The main point of this finding is that only a single device may be used and it must be plugged directly into the outlet. Plugging more than one device together in a chain results in what is commonly referred to as “daisy chaining” and the potential hazard is overloading both the wiring and the circuit as a whole. This checklist item should be cited when you see two or more of these items used in series, whether alike (e.g., 2 power strips) or different (e.g., power strip + extension cord).
In Exhibit A you see a power strip plugged into a lab-made extension cord (which is a violation in and of itself) on the floor. Exhibit B is an example of daisy chaining with an extension cord plugged into a power strip.
