Overview

Compressed gas cylinders are not properly restrained.

  • Lots of options possible
  • Anchor must be to an immovable surface
  • Purpose is to protect the valve
  • Must prevent tipping over or sliding out of bottom

This inspection item relates to preventing cylinders from falling over and breaking off the valve. These accidents have occurred, though not at UNL, with the cylinder becoming a rocket that can penetrate concrete walls. There are a lot of options available to meet this requirement, but the anchor must be to an immovable surface or be a manufacturer-provided stand and must prevent the cylinder from either tipping over or sliding out the bottom of the anchor. Next there are images of both acceptable and unacceptable anchoring.
