Overview
Verify fire extinguisher is fully charged.
On most types of extinguishers, you can inspect the round pressure gauge to make sure the indicator is in the green indicating it is correctly and fully charged. Look at the integrity of the seal (zip tie) around the pin. If it is broken, the extinguisher is considered not acceptable for use. The Senior will contact BSM to secure servicing regardless of the date on the inspection tag.
If an extinguisher is overcharged, the agent releases at a higher velocity and if you are operating under normal circumstances, it could spread the fire, vs. extinguishing the flames. If an extinguisher is undercharged, this may be an indication that the extinguisher was discharged or leaking. It may not have sufficient powder or pressure to properly extinguish a fire.
On CO2 extinguishers, there is not a gauge, so look at the integrity of the seal (plastic tie) around the pin. In all extinguishers, if the plastic tie is broken, the extinguisher may not be fully charged regardless of the gauge reading. Cite this item in this scenario.
