Overview

Fire extinguishers must be readily accessible at all times.

If a fire extinguisher is sitting on a counter/table and is obstructed, items must be moved. Fire extinguishers should not sit on counters, rather should be mounted on a wall or in a cabinet as they must be secured the same as other compressed gas cylinders. Exhibit A shows a fire extinguisher cabinet just above a countertop, obstructed by items on the counter. In Exhibit B, the extinguisher is obstructed by a lab cart. Have the lab personnel move the cart to provide access to the fire extinguisher. Cite this on the report, but document that it was corrected at time of inspection.
