Fire extinguisher not of the appropriate class
- Class A – Trash, Wood, Paper
- Class B – Flammable Liquids
- Class C – Electrical Equipment
- Class D – Combustible Metals
- Class K – Cooking Oil Fires
Most laboratories are equipped with or have access to ABC fire extinguishers. These are suitable for most situations. This checklist item would be appropriately cited under the following example situations:
- Lack of a supplemental Class D extinguisher in laboratories using combustible metals. Work with combustible metals should be noted under Special Topics on checklist for follow-up.
- Water extinguishers for laboratories using flammable liquids. Water extinguishers should be confined to spaces with large quantities of paper, e.g., print shops.
