Overview
Fire extinguishers are not present, of the appropriate class, accessible, fully charged, mounted in their intended cabinet or bracket, or have not been inspected within the last year.
As indicated by the checklist item language, several situations can lead to a citation under this checklist item. The next few sections will discuss each situation in more detail.

Citations
NFPA 45, 6.3.1 Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed, located, and maintained in accordance with
NFPA 10. NFPA 10, 6.1.2 Portable Fire Extinguishers shall be maintained in a fully charged and operable condition and shall be kept in their designated places at all times when they are not being used.
6.1.3.1 Fire Extinguishers shall be conspicuously located where they are readily accessible and immediately available in the event of a fire.
6.1.3.3.1 Fire extinguishers shall be installed in locations where they are visible except as permitted by
6.1.3.3.2 in rooms and in locations where visual obstructions cannot be avoided, signs or other means shall be provided to indicate the extinguisher location and

6.1.3.4 Portable fire extinguishers other than wheeled extinguishers shall be installed using any of the following means: (1) Securely on a hanger intended for the fire extinguisher (2) In a bracket incorporating release straps or bands supplied by the extinguisher manufacturer (3) In a listed bracket incorporating release straps or bands approved for such use (4) In approved cabinets or wall recesses.
7.3.2 This section mandates an annual inspection by a qualified fire extinguisher and the minimum required content of the inspection.
