Overview

  • Sturdy shelving
  • Upright
  • Floor
  • Impede egress

Examples of other potential storage concerns include storage on rickety or unstable surfaces/shelves, storage in a haphazard manner, e.g., liquid containers on their sides, storage on the floor when in a position that can result in inadvertent kicking, tripping, etc, and storage of materials with physical hazards in a manner that they may impede egress from the laboratory in an emergency situation. An example of this is storage of compressed gas cylinders, cryogens, and flammable liquids next to the exit when the laboratory has only one exit. Storage should also be neat and orderly. Storage must be in a manner as to not impede egress from the storage location (e.g., stored away from aisles and exit doors).
