  • The NFPA Standard just cited also states that hazardous chemicals shall be stored and handled in such a manner as to limit a spill scenario to less than 20 L.
  • Evaluation of a spill scenario is usually based on maximum single container size or maximum release from a process failure. Rarely should you encounter a process or container in a lab that exceeds 20 L. If that is the case, secondary containment and other process safety considerations will need to be evaluated and you should discuss the situation with a Senior staff member.
