Overview

There are three container types (non-waste)

Commercial

Those from a manufacturer of the chemical

Durable

Those created in the workplace

Transient

Those created for less than one work session

In accordance with UNL’s SOP Chemical Container Labeling there are three, non-waste, chemical container types. These are: commercial (i.e., those from a manufacturer or supplier); durable (i.e., those created in the workspace); and transient (i.e., those created for less than one work session)

A “commercial” container is one that is provided by the manufacturer/supplier of the chemical.

A “durable” container is one that holds a chemical which will be used for more than one work session, but which is not provided by the chemical manufacturer/supplier. Durable containers most frequently contain working stocks or solutions.

A "transient" container is one that is in process, and which will be used for a single work session.

Next, each of these will be described in detail.
