Overview
Means of egress (e.g. stairwells, exit doors, and common paths leading thereto) are not maintained free of all obstructions or impediments to full instant use in case of fire or other emergency; or are used for storage of combustible materials.
The last checklist item, LAB02 was focused on conditions within the laboratory. This checklist item, LAB03, is focused on conditions outside of the laboratory or that block access to the laboratory exit door. The primary focus is on the space/path from the door leading out of the room to the door leading out of the building. This checklist item may be cited more liberally, but still with some caution. The intent of this checklist item is to ensure that building occupants can safely exit the building in the event of an emergency.
In Exhibit A notice the door on the left hand side of the picture. This is an obvious access and egress issue - the door will barely open, let alone allow safe passage. Next we will discuss more examples.
