UNL operates an Integrated Pest Management program, but sometimes insects get into a building and into labs. This can be a concern when working with microorganisms because the insects can mechanically transmit pathogens outside of the containment area. So if you see bug carcasses or spider webs in bio labs, cite it under this item and suggest the PI to be more diligent about cleaning the lab to prevent pests from making homes in the lab. Note the presence of pests for the Senior Specialist. Even if the presence of pests is not a violation considering the research protocol, the Senior Specialist may provide the PI with information on how to secure pest control through the Facilities Service Desk.
